Purple Sage
Purple and black sage are similar. The easiest way to tell the difference is by looking at the base of the leaf. Purple sage has a hip at the base of the leaf where black sage does not.
Once a year the Great Race of Agoura goes through Cheeseboro Canyon. It's one of the few Saturdays while volunteering for the National Park Service that I get to do nothing but sit and watch.
